The Tilt “The Long Game”

Album review by Jonas

The Tilt are back with their new record The Long Game. The album opens with an atmospheric track Black Sheep Count Yourself to Sleep. The Talking Heads influence really takes shape on Growing a Tail, which has been a live favorite for the band for a while now. They have done a great job of capturing the energy of those live performances on this track. As a big fan of their live shows, the Talking Heads, and shouty music, it is my favorite track right now. Make sure to check out the music video if you have not already.

Dulling a Tongue is one of the most exciting tracks, with its mash of electronic dance music. The dueling vocals between Zeta and Sawyer is energetic while William and Taylor’s groove is blistering. Really this would be an accurate description for what The Tilt is all about. Another fan favorite Tropicana Fields Forever has been worked excellently in its recording. While Ostrich will have you shakin ass wherever you find yourself. Again I hear influences from some of my favorite bands on some of these tracks such as The Cure, Modest Mouse, Local Natives, and Johnny Marr (fuck morrisey). While plenty records use the middle of the album to stuff some of the weaker tracks, The Tilt does the opposite continuing this incredible track streak with Fuselage.

To try wrap this record up, I have to point this out; experimental and weird music is a wonderful thing. But something tough that can happen is that often experimental music = inaccessible music. What The Tilt is able to do that is so unique is crafting the weird music, but in a way that I truly believe anyone can find something to love in it.

My wife and I were so unbelievably happy to have The Tilt play our wedding this spring, and with all of our families together, we had no doubts about how much The Tilt were just gonna rip open that dance floor for anyone who has ears and hips. This band truly rips and this record is an excellent snapshot of their sound.

The Long Game was released November 1st, 2024.
