EP review by Jonas
The Losing Game plays with a mix of sounds ranging from 80/90s alternative rock to stadium type ballads with ripping guitars. Dan Shafer’s whisper yelling singing style fits the vibe perfectly and so uniquely. The band itself is very tight on this EP and the quality of recording matches the style of the music very nicely. This whole EP is very catchy. It is a challenge to listen to these tracks and not start to sing along. This goes the same for seeing them live, even for your first time. A favorite track of mine is Limelight:
“So I’ll play my sad songs and your top 40 hits.
But I’m pushing 30 and the tips are shit
Too old for the limelight. Too young to quit.
Your dreams will die before you realize it.”
It is a heartfelt track from a loving band full of very sweet people. Even that aside, their EP absolutely rips.
The Losing Game is honoring their late drummer and dear friend Joe Bucci tonight (7/26/24) at Oscura in Bradenton, FL.
