my dead roommate “Remember Troy”

single review by Jonas

Anthony, Zach, Nathan, and Troy have come together to release one of my favorite singles of the year. While Troy has had to move away, my dead roommate have dedicated this first release to their former drummer. my dead roommate is a new band from Sarasota putting out their first release and playing their first shows this year. The members come from a wide background of musical influences. Their first year ended with an exclamation point, opening up The Tilt’s album release show at Oscura in November.

Remember Troy contains the first two tracks released by the new Sarasota artists my dead roommate. The first track Affirmation is a noisy and energetic track with a constant pulsing rhythm. The loud ripping guitar riffs, the muffled vocals, and the funky rhythm feel exactly tuned to my personal tastes. I’m thinking anything from 90s noise music to even stuff as fresh and new as Black Midi/ Geordie Greep type of sound. I gotta say I love this track, it is probably one of my favorite songs put out by a Sarasota artist this year.

Searing fear of desperation, Rotting in my own time

9/7/24 closes out the release with an acoustic track. This track is a catchy and rhythmic track with mumbled non-words. What it really shows off is the melodies this project can balence with its noisy sound. It also shows the future range in sound that we will be sure to see from my dead roommate in the future.

Remember Troy was released on September 8th, 2024
